Chief Executive for Private Members Club

Background

The Lensbury is a Private Members Club originally developed as a leisure venue for Shell employees.  It is still owned by Shell but since 2001 operated as a commercial enterprise.  The Business comprises a Health Club, 160 bed Hotel, Training Centre, Golf Course and extensive Food and Beverage facilities.

The client had attempted to advertise and recruit the role unsuccessfully. They had also engaged another recruitment agency who had not grasped the brief.

  • Finding someone with a broad range of skills who had touched on Hotel, Leisure and F&B

Solution
  • Consultancy -  We worked in consultancy with The Lensbury Visit -  Visited the club and met the key people
  • Brief – Took a full and detailed brief of the role and absorbed a clear understanding of their goals. Scripted Advert – Scripted advertising copy and worked in very short timescales of two days from instruction to placing the advert in the Sunday Times
  • Media Choice – Negotiation through media buyers for the advertising space
  • On Line – Placed the advert on line with guardian.co.uk, caterer.com and Barrettclark.com
  • Response – Received CV’s, interviews with a tailor made competency framework interview.  Some candidates were met and interviewed on their place of work to get a real free for their ability.
  • Report – Went back to The Lensbury and delivered a detailed report on the process together with précis on each candidate who had been short-listed.

Parkwood Leisure specialises in the development and operation of leisure facilities on behalf of local authority and non-local authority clients.  The Company’s management experience range from 50m pools to theatres, ice rinks and stand-alone catering facilities.  They have developed a reputation for high quality management and customer-focused service provision and has a strong track record in increasing the usage of the facilities it manages, through financial investment and a flexible approach to community needs.

  • Brief – met with the MD & HRD on several occasions to gain a full understanding of their requirements and clarify process moving forward
  • Advertising – scripted the advertising copy, designed the advert and advised on where it should be placed.
  • Media Choice – the advert was placed in The Sunday Times to appeal to the broad commercial market and also Leisure Opportunities in order to target leisure specific individuals.
  • Response – received CV’s, interviewed against the brief with a tailor made competency framework
